POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Legislative Aide provides foundational support to CPPG’s advocacy and operations team. This is a full-time, fully in-person position based at our Sacramento office. Candidates must either reside in the Sacramento region or be in the process of relocating prior to their start date. The role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented individual interested in learning California’s legislative process from the ground up. The Legislative Aide helps track policy developments, prepare materials, support client service, and keep internal systems running efficiently.

Salary range (non-exempt): $50-$60K/year.


LEGISLATIVE & BUDGET TRACKING

  • Assign, track, and update legislation and client positions using CapitolTrack
  • Organize bills by subject area and generate daily reports for team use
  • Research and analyze newly introduced or amended bills for client impact
  • Coordinate CPPG’s internal advocacy calendar, including all legislative, budgetary, and administrative deadlines
  • Draft, coordinate, and submit position letters to the Legislature, state agencies, and partner organizations
  • Conduct background or historical policy research as needed
  • Conduct legislative and regulatory research as needed
  • Assist advocates with vote count coordination and deliver “me too”/supportive testimony on behalf of clients
  • Monitor and attend legislative hearings; draft and distribute summaries for internal use
  • Help coordinate and schedule legislative meetings and advocacy activities, as directed
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with other Capitol offices, association staff, and policy professionals
  • Track and summarize state budget developments as they evolve through the legislative process
  • Perform various other tasks with CapitolTrack, including keeping detailed notes

CLIENT AND TEAM SUPPORT

  • Draft, edit, and format client communications such as bill updates, memos, and reports
  • Schedule meetings with legislators, staff, clients, and external stakeholders
  • Prepare client-specific agendas and presentations
  • Prepare briefing packets and follow-up materials for client meetings or advocacy days
  • Support planning and execution of advocacy events, legislative tours, and year-end deliverables

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain and organize digital files, shared drives, and tracking spreadsheets for client-specific work
  • Add hearings, legislative deadlines, and key events for team coordination to the firm’s internal shared calendars
  • Prepare and maintain client-specific monthly activity reports that document advocacy activity and progress, client communication, and client deliverables
  • Support development of internal team resources such as hearing preparation sheets and contact lists

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Monitor proposed state regulations and ballot measures relevant to client priorities
  • Assist in preparing business development materials, including proposals and RFP responses
  • Provide direct administrative support to the CEO or other leadership team members, as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of CPPG’s clients and team

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in a legislative, administrative, or professional policy environment
  • Outstanding attention to detail and time management skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and online research tools
  • Familiarity with California’s legislative and budget process preferred
  • Interest in public policy, state governance, and the role of local government
  • Professional judgment, discretion, and a collaborative mindset
