Rachelle Wilson
Grant Writing Consultant
Rachelle Wilson is a wildfire grant writer and consultant. She brings to CPPG 12 years of experience in education and six years of experience in wildland fire prevention.
Her career in wildfire firefighting and prevention began in 2018, after she completed all required certifications to be a Wildland Firefighter Type II and immediately joined the Baca Grande Fire Department (BGFD) in Crestone, CO. At that time, the BGFD had a $225,000 state grant for a 200-acre fuels management project that she was able to successfully manage, track, report, and assist with close-out activities. Working simultaneously on the fuels management crew allowed her to navigate daily tracking methods with her crew that made the reporting process more efficient. Rachelle subsequently secured funding from the FEMA 2021 FY Fire Safety and Prevention Grant to continue that fuels management project.
Rachelle’s experience as a Wildland Firefighter Type II includes assignments on the Monument and Windy fires of 2021 that burned in Northern and Southern California, respectively. She looks forward to contributing her knowledge and experience to help serve CPPG clients facing increased wildfire risk.
In addition to consulting for CPPG, Rachelle has found a way to combine her two passions by developing wildland fire prevention alternative career pathways and career technical education curriculums for high school students. She also consults for rural communities on how to build wildfire prevention and resiliency capacity.
In her spare time, Rachelle enjoys snowboarding and dabbling in stand-up comedy.
